“After coming out of a very difficult time in my life — years of sexual exploitation within the sex industry, followed by eight years of chronic panic attacks, anxiety, and depression — I had reached a point where I knew I needed to heal, but didn’t quite have the strength to revisit the pain.
Over the years, I had reached out to several different therapists and sexual assault charities, including trauma-informed professionals who used different approaches — one even used figurines and roleplay techniques to help people process trauma. Although they were all kind and well-intentioned, I still couldn’t fully open up or feel completely safe doing so.
I had also been working with a wonderful NHS psychologist for about ten months, and she helped me understand post-traumatic stress in a clinical sense, which I’m truly grateful for. But when I began working with Hamaima, something entirely different happened. In just three sessions, she helped me move through more deep healing and understanding than I had achieved in nearly a year of conventional therapy.
