Cacao Ceremony
What is ceremonial cacao?
Ceremonial Cacao as all Cacao is raw Chocolate. It is organically grown and minimally processed, ideally grown with the intention to be used for ceremony. After the beans have fermented and were ligthly roasted, they are peeled by hand and sorted through two times to prevent any mouldy ones to make it into the paste.
I personally work with Lava Love Cacao from Guatemala, not only because their Cacao is of the highest quality, but also because I have a close relationship to the founders of Lava Love Cacao Izaias and Izabel (my Mayan Family) from Lake Atitlan. They are the experts on Cacao. Check out their site
When consuming Cacao it leads to a release of endorphins and an opening of our hearts. The Spirit of the Cacao is a Master Plant Teacher and is also known by the Mayans as IX Cacao. IX is the Mayan Sign that represents Mother Earth, the Jaguar and the Witches. Cacao is a Feminine Spirit, who is gentle and nurturing, but at the same time very powerful. When we use Cacao we are often invited to work with forgiveness and acceptance, leading us to increased love for ourselves and others.
What is a Cacao Ceremony?
A cacao ceremony can be held in many different ways. I like to work with healing intentions and sharing circles as a frame work for my shamanic journeys that are enhanced by the plant medicine cacao. I find it important that the participants truly connect with each other on the heart level as this leads to increased trust and an uplifted, elevated emotional state as well as self-empowerment.
Cacao is gentle in a way that it lets you decide if you are ready to let go. Maybe just listening to other peoples' stories will help you make the necessary changes in your lives.
The aim of a Cacao Ceremony is to help you embrace your wounded parts, empower you to release that what doesn't serve you any longer and help you see and re-connect with what is truly important in your life.
Why is cacao used in ceremony?
Cacao is the medicine of the heart and helps us to break down the walls that we might have built around it due to past hurts and disappointments. With Cacao we can go beautifully deep and connect with our Higher Self and other divine guidance. Also, Cacao is compared to other plant medicines easy to integrate and gives us simple, practical and at the same time powerful insights.
What are the benefits of cacao ceremony?
If you drink Cacao regularly it will improve your memory, increase your serotonin levels and therefore help with depression. Drinking Cacao over long periods of time also helps to reduce high blood pressure.
Cacao is considered to be the best creativity enhancer and is used by authors, artists, yoga and meditation teachers, dance therapists, tantric practitioners and the list goes on.
It is considered a superfood, that contains a wide range of vitamins, minerals and 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries. It is especially high in iron, magnesium and calcium and is wonderful for women to drink during their moon time.
And most importantly Cacao is the Heart Medicine that will help you open to even deeper love.
Does ceremonial cacao have caffeine?
The main stimulant found in high grade ceremonial cacao is Theobromine (which means ‘the food of the gods’). The amount of caffeine in good ceremonial grade Cacao should be very low. You will find that cacao will give you a great burst of energy and at the same time help you to focus and enable deep inner work.
What is a shamanic journey?
When we work in a shamanic way we enter an altered state of consciousness through ingesting medicinal plants and/or through experiencing rhythmic sounds, enabling us to connect with non-ordinary reality and open our perception to the world of spirit.
There we have the opportunity to meet our spiritual guides, such as spirit animals, ascended masters, plant spirits, angels and ancestors, find and embrace our Inner Children, get to know and love our shadows and there is much more.
The aim is to receive guidance, blessings and wisdom and to re-unite with abandoned and fragmented parts of our soul. This can have a positive impact on all aspects of your life, your physical, mental and emotional health, your spiritual connection, relationships, career and health.
